Kelsey Farquharson, Media Strategist at Media Horizons, was recently a guest panelist at the Marketing Edge Career Forum held on November 4th at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
The annual forum gives college students the opportunity to network with companies looking for intern and entry level talent, while hearing from leaders in the marketing field and receiving advice from a panel of marketing professionals.
Together, Kelsey and other panelists from Media Math, Epsilon, PMX and Wired, tackled questions that addressed what attracted them to the marketing field, the classes they took in college to prepare them for their current roles, the skills required to excel at their jobs and other advice to help students prepare for their future careers.
“The most important piece of advice that I can give to upcoming graduates is to take the blinders off,” said Kelsey. “You may have gone to school to study one subject and had internships in that particular field but you may not be able to get that dream job you always thought you wanted. Take a risk and apply to all different types of jobs; you never know where your dream job lies and you may be passing it up if you keep those blinders on.”
Also featured at the event, which was attended by more than 200 college and graduate students, were keynote speakers Brian Fetherstonhaugh, Global CEO of OgilvyOne Worldwide, and Mark Friedman, President and CEO of Steve Madden.
